Industry Study Shows Significant Shift to YouTube by Top Global Brands

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwired - August 7, 2013) - Marketing professionals are increasingly relying on video content and social media to deliver solid business results. Today, Pixability debuted "The Top 100 Global Brands: Key Lessons for Success on YouTube," a comprehensive study on the use of YouTube by the leading global brands to drive video and digital marketing success. Revealing a 99 percent YouTube adoption rate and 73 percent year-over-year growth, the brands driving the best results are moving beyond television-style brand awareness to much more socially-engaged, longer-form, content-rich channels. Download the full report here.

Examining how the top 100 global brands, as ranked by Interbrand in its Best Global Brands report, have made YouTube a critical part of their marketing and business strategy, the report analyzes the videos produced by these brands. Over the past five years, the top brands have gone from just a few dozen YouTube uploads in 2005 to more than 10,000 cumulative video uploads in a single month last year. These 100 brands alone now account for 9.5 billion collective YouTube views and more than 2,200 channels containing 258,000+ videos. We anticipate that by 2015, they will likely invest in the production, marketing, and distribution of over one million new YouTube videos. But brand marketers have work to do: the study uncovers that over 50% of their videos get fewer than 1000 views.

"Ignoring YouTube is no longer an option for marketers. It is quickly becoming the marketing channel of choice for the world's top brands and the agencies that support them," said Bettina Hein, Founder and CEO of Pixability. "Leading brands are using YouTube to build an engaged audience and drive business results. Marketers who put the best practices unveiled in this report into action will drive more successful video and digital marketing campaigns."

Understanding that video marketing is just as important as video production, these brands offer valuable lessons. The report pinpoints seven core best practices for brand marketers. Three of the best practices include:

1. Be a well-oiled, consistent, video content machine: The most successful brands have 50% more videos per channel compared to the least successful ones. The best-performing brands publish high volumes of content on a regular schedule. Top aggregate brands publish approximately 78 videos per month. Leading media brands produce even more: close to 500 videos per month.
2. Apply an "Always On" strategy to video marketing: The most successful brand marketers on YouTube integrate their online video strategies with their traditional, offline marketing strategies. 17 of the Top 100 Global Brands use less than 50% of their channels. Continued advertising results in sustainable channel growth and subscribers.
3. Don't get caught in the overproduction trap; lesser quality video works well, too: The best YouTube marketers produce a broader range of video content. Videos do not need to be prime-time quality, because those with lower production value can be just as effective.

"We've used our software to help many of the best companies in the world drive quantifiable business results with YouTube," said Andreas Goeldi, CTO of Pixability. "We knew that the data collection for such a large set of videos was a monumental task, but our software quickly delivered audience, usage, and performance data in every dimension. We found significant disparities between the top and bottom performers in this elite group, showing that some brands get YouTube and others just don't."

The best performing brands based on this study applied a methodical approach to creating and tailoring their video content to the needs of their customers -- driving consistently high viewership. The report also found primary publishing and social media trends differed by industry. An example being that viewer sentiment is starting to show distinct trends by industry. Home and luxury segments have the highest sentiment, while financial services and consumer goods have the lowest.

For a comprehensive look at all major findings, the seven core best practices, and how video usage differs by industry, please download the full report.

Methodology
Starting with the list of companies identified in Interbrand's Best Global Brands report, Pixability collected data from YouTube channels owned and managed by these Top 100 Global Brands. Pixability software collected a list of 2214 candidate channels. A group of analysts then verified each channel according to the criteria listed above and reduced the list to 1378 verified channels. All individual metrics per video were added by channel and then by brand to get to the total values used in the study. The raw data was used as an input into Pixability's Online Video Grader software. The data presented in the study represents full and exact counts of the metrics described above. No sampling, estimates, regressions or projections were used. The complete methodology, including exact data harvested for each channel by Pixability's YouTube marketing software and the resulting Grader scores from Pixability's Online Video Grader software is included in the report.

The report authors, Andreas Goeldi and Rob Ciampa are both YouTube-certified. For more information about the report, please email us at youtubebrandstudy@pixability.com or call 888-PIX-VIDEO (888-749-8433).

Rabbit TV Tops One Million Subscribers, Company Expands Offering

ORLANDO, FL, August 08, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rabbit TV, the latest entry into the Internet TV device market, has quickly reached over one million units sold only 18 weeks after its launch, further demonstrating a growing consumer acceptance for Internet-based entertainment viewing.

FreeCast Inc, the company behind the online television and movie network servicing Rabbit TV subscribers, has amassed the largest virtual content library and guide of freely available entertainment over the web. FreeCast also offers Rabbit TV subscribers a vast selection of newly released box-office hits, the latest cable episodes/series, live events, sports, and premium channels on a pay-per-view basis. The company is pursuing a true 'a la carte' select-and-pay offering for price-conscious consumers.

FreeCast's collaboration with sales and marketing giant Telebrands Corp has given the product massive consumer exposure and is educating a new generation on what is becoming the future of digital entertainment. Rabbit TV has quickly populated the shelf space of major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Office Depot, Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General, Rite-Aid, and many others.

By aggregating and organizing content from thousands of online sources, including TV shows and movies from today and the last 50 years, Rabbit TV is able to give users an easy-to-use, universal access point for all of their web-based entertainment, providing both a time-saving and convenience factor that's garnering an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers.

"Our subscribers are absolutely falling in love with Rabbit TV. All you have to do is take a look at our user time-online statistics, which are already competing with the likes of Hulu and Netflix," reports William Mobley, FreeCast's CEO.

The company gives credit for the growing consumer interest in Rabbit TV to a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape, fueled by growing cord-cutter, over-the-top (OTT), second screen, and mobile TV markets. This transformation is further evidenced by recent developments in the industry, including Cablevision CEO James Dolan's admittance that television will ultimately shift to the Internet, as well as continuing fee disputes between networks and cable providers, the most recent conflict involving a stalemate between Time Warner Cable and CBS which left millions of Time Warner customers without CBS and Showtime programming.

"We've been watching this shift ever since we launched our first video portal back in 1999," says Mobley. "Our goal right now is to pursue this with an open, agnostic 'library-guide' approach, with a focus on aggregating an audience based on the convenience factor. We want to be ready for whatever's going to happen here, and we're excited to see how it all plays out."

FreeCast and Telebrands plan to announce in the coming weeks both substantial updates to their network offering and additional multi-device compatibility for Rabbit TV.

Marketing Pioneer Rich Gorman Explains Amazon's Move Into Fine Art

$
0
0
PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 08, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Amazon.com has made an unexpected move into the world of fine art--but according to Rich Gorman, this move hardly poses a threat to worldwide art galleries and dealers. Gorman is not alone in thinking that the Amazon.com move, while novel and quite significant, is not a bad thing for the art world. A recent NPR report argues along similar lines. Rich Gorman has responded to the report with a new statement to the press.

As NPR notes, local book stores and independent record shops have been dwindling for years now, thanks to online retailers--Amazon.com foremost among them--slowly taking over book and music sales. Now, Amazon.com has joined the many online galleries that sell fine art--but for once, brick and mortar stores seem unconcerned about the online retail juggernaut.

"What makes this different from Amazon's foray into music sales, for instance--which went a long way toward putting many independent record stores out of business--is that, rather than trying to simply dominate the industry, Amazon is actually working in partnership with many local galleries," Rich Gorman observes. Indeed, NPR explains that Amazon.com's new fine art site includes galleries in New York, Miami, and other major U.S. cities, as well as in Canada, Great Britain, and the Netherlands.

Amazon believes that the audience for purchasing visual art, via a major online retailer, is out there. In fact, Peter Faricy, the Amazon VP who is overseeing the launch of the new fine art section of the site, says Amazon's move into fine art comes as a result of consumer requests.

All told, Amazon.com's new fine art store includes 150 galleries, and works from 4,500 artists--but what really matters is not the quantity so much as the quality. "All of the images we're using for the artwork are high definition," Faricy says, in the NPR report. "They're all able to be looked at in more detail."

"Some will say that Amazon is far from the first website to feature online galleries of visual art, or to allow consumers to shop and purchase fine art on the Web, and they are not wrong," Rich Gorman interjects. "Certainly, there are a number fine art websites out there. With that said, the emergence of Amazon into this realm is a very big deal, simply because of how many people already shop on the Amazon site daily."

As such, Gorman believes that Amazon's art offerings will ultimately be a boon to the fine art world. "People are much more likely to show an interest in fine art, and to purchase fine art, and ultimately to support these great galleries, just because the chance to do so, easily and conveniently, is now out there," he explains. "Fine art is now on the menu at Amazon.com, and that's a very good thing for fine art."

"On Amazon, you can buy a Monet, a Warhol or a Norman Rockwell for close to $5 million," NPR reports. "But most of the works range in price from $100 to $5,000. And many of the galleries that have signed up are not high end."

Rich Gorman is a foremost name in online marketing.

ABOUT:

Rich Gorman is a top name in the field of direct response marketing. Via prolific blogging and consulting work, he has become known as a true industry thought leader. Gorman regularly opines on issues related to online marketing, business leadership, search engine technology, and online reputation management. Bridging the Gap in Emerging Global Printing Markets

$

Source: RechargeAsia Corp

San Marino, CA, August 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- RechargeAsia magazine is a bilingual (English and Chinese) monthly publication focusing on the printer, copier and consumables (ink and toner) industry. RechargeAsia will launch its signature Southeast Asia regional event entitled RechargExpo Thailand on August 28-30, in the Grand Diamond Hall at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

RechargeAsia Corporation’s geographic emphasis is on Asia, especially Southeast Asia, both because this region boasts of a well-established printer market and is home to some of the most promising industry companies in the region. Current market trends indicate that Southeast Asia is a solid platform for companies seeking to make their mark in global markets. Of particular attraction is the fact that the area is not quite up to speed with the latest technology in the printing industry, which conversely represents ample room for growth.

As one of the largest emerging markets, Asia has solidified its position as the world’s second biggest economy in Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), after the United States, according to the latest World Development Indicators.

On average, the global printing industry over the years has experienced tremendous growth as a whole. To establish their presence in the industry and gain more market share, major printer and office consumables suppliers in North America have installed production facilities in emerging markets. This expansion trend is expected to continue and is aided by friendly investment policies towards foreign companies put forth by the governments of these emerging nations.

RechargeAsia, through the successful development and promotion of printing and imaging exhibitions (RechargExpo Southeast Asia 2013 Thailand, August 28-30 and RehcargExpo Southeast Asia 2013 Indonesia, November 7-10) over the last eight years has extended numerous business opportunities and growth potential to many participating companies. During this period, Recharge Asia's mission and goal has always been to bridge and narrow the gap between buyers and sellers and to facilitate cultural differences between businesses from the East and West. The exhibitions are aimed at producers and makers of printing and imaging consumables, including parts and supplies, and at providing opportunities for these companies to meet potential buyers that include wholesalers, distributors and retailers.

While the use of printer, copier, ink, toner, laser cartridges, photo paper, consumables and office supplies has decreased in saturated, developed markets, emerging markets within Southeast Asia have not been as affected by this slowdown. As such, Recharge Asia continues to place emphasis on this part of the world and sees it as a new horizon for companies looking to expand to this region.

Recharge Asia works diligently with companies attending their expos so that they may achieve sustained economic business growth, develop new business relationships and revitalize existing ones. Their commitment to helping the print industry grow via new channels of communication between the various sectors in in the market is why their exhibitions have been met with success and will continue to flourish for many more years to come.

“We exhibited at RechargExpo Southeast Asia 2012 for the first time and found that there is a big market for printer and copier consumables in Indonesia and surrounding region. The visitors were all industry professionals. We found RechargExpo Southeast Asia to be a very useful expo to us in our expansion into the region.” Jessica Lin, General Manager, Cangzhou ASC Toner Production Ltd. "RechargExpo understands the trends of the business opportunities in fast growing regions, and its Expo in Jakarta rightly offered me the opportunity to engage in new contacts and new potentials for growth of our business. I am quite pleased with the new acquaintances I acquired at RechargExpo. Job well done, RechargeAsia!” Kam Woon, Business Development Manager UniNet Imaging S.E. ASIA

RechargeAsia Corp.
With its focus on the North American and fast-growing Asian market, Recharge Asia has utilized their knowledge and past experience to provide valuable assistance to producers and remanufacturers in the printing and imaging industry for mutual benefits. The objective is that such assistance not only benefits each but also the regions and the economy as a whole.

Hoboken, NJ, August 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- In order to strengthen the security of wireless communications in the battlefield, Dr. Yingying Chen of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology has been awarded a three-year grant from the Army Research Office (ARO). Her innovative research on mobile wireless security will aid mobile nodes operating outside supporting infrastructure—for instance soldiers or vehicles performing mission-critical tactical tasks in hostile battlefield environments—which provide significant challenges to secure communication.

Dr. Chen has formulated new methods of authentication that can generate secret keys based on hard-to-falsify physical properties, potentially ensuring secure wireless communication for the armed forces. The processes can also be applied to civilian uses, allowing members of an organization to work securely even when they are outside the bounds of that organization’s supporting infrastructure.

“With the rapid advancement of wireless technologies, over-the-air communication has played a crucial role in supporting numerous military and civilian applications,” says Dr. Michael Bruno, Dean of the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science. “Technologies that can guarantee the security of wireless transmissions in remote surroundings would go a long way toward ensuring the effectiveness of military missions and the safety of the servicemen and women who carry them out.”

Wireless transmitters and receivers need to be able to assure secure and reliable data delivery in order to enable proper response to scenarios that threaten the availability of wireless communications. However, effective user authentication and secure communication for ad hoc networks in the battlefield remain challenging due to the lack of specialized security devices. Mobile nodes must collaborate in order to provide secure data exchange, and the establishment of keys in this manner is vulnerable to eavesdropping.

Dr. Chen has proposed the establishment of a holistic framework that allows communicating nodes to make inferences of physical properties of a network transmission to enhance wireless security. In networking, the physical layer defines the parameters for sending raw bits in a network—what medium is used, the electrical connectors, the frequencies for transmission, etc. Since wireless transmissions travel through the air rather than the more controlled environment within a wire, physical layer properties in wireless communication vary over time and include a degree of randomness from the environment. The use of these physical properties for authentication is an attractive option because it would eliminate the need for supporting encryption infrastructure by supplementing properties that have already been implemented rather than creating a new system.

“As wireless communications become increasingly prevalent in our society, Dr. Chen stands at the forefront of wireless technology security researchers who are scrutinizing and adapting information security for the future,” says Dr. Yu-Dong Yao, Director of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Dr. Yingying (Jennifer) Chen co-authored the book Securing Emerging Wireless Systems in 2009 and published over 70 journal articles and referred conference papers. She is the director of Data Analysis and Information Security (DAISY) Lab at Stevens. She is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award 2010 and Google Research Award 2010. She was honored with a New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame Innovators Award 2012. Her research has been reported in numerous media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, MIT Technology Review, Inside Science, NPR, and CNET.

Scientific Breakthrough in Carbon Nanotube Photonics

Source: Stevens Institute of Technology

Hoboken, NJ, August 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Stefan Strauf, Professor in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics and Director of the NanoPhotonics Laboratory at Stevens Institute of Technology, and collaborators James Hone and Chee Wei Wong from Columbia University have published a paper in the July 11 edition of Nature Communications. Their article, titled “Prolonged Spontaneous Emission and Dephasing of Quantum Dot Excitons in Air-Bridged Carbon Nanotubes,” describes an improved fabrication process for carbon nanotubes, potentially leading to brighter light sources and more effective solar cells. They were able to increase the spontaneous light emission from an individual carbon nanotube by two orders of magnitude compared to previously reported experiments. They were also able to achieve a fourfold prolonged coherence time of the light emission.

“Dr. Strauf’s groundbreaking advances with carbon nanotubes represent a significant scientific breakthrough that could herald technological innovation in numerous important industries such as quantum computing and solar energy,” says Dr. Michael Bruno, Dean of the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science.

A carbon nanotube is a cylindrical carbon molecule that exhibits extraordinary strength, unique electrical properties, and efficient heat conduction. It has well-established applications in nanoelectronics and more recently has attracted tremendous interest as a nanomaterial for next-generation optoelectronics (electronic devices that source, detect and control light for optical fiber communications, solar cells and LEDs) and quantum photonic devices that have the potential to revolutionize information processing, telecommunications, sensing and measurement.

Carbon nanotubes have attracted enormous interest for optoelectronics due to the unique ability of the material to maintain the stability of electron states called excitons even at room temperature. An environment of extreme cold is usually required. An exciton comes about when a (negatively charged) electron in a carbon nanotube is excited (raised to a higher energy level) but remains bound to a positively charged “hole” in the lower energy level. The exciton thus carries energy but not a net electric charge. Photons are absorbed when the electron enters the exciton state and light emitted when the electron recombines with the hole. The absorption can be used to create solar cells, while the emission can be used to create devices like LEDs, lasers, and quantum light sources.

Despite the promise of this innovative material, its light emission has generally been dimmer than theorists had expected. The majority of experiments on carbon nanotubes to date reveal low quantum efficiencies as well as dependence on the environment and chemical processing. This is detrimental to their usefulness in devices and other applications. According to Dr. Strauf, “Understanding the intrinsic photophysical properties of carbon nanotubes is very interesting scientifically and also essential to realizing efficient devices.” To address these inefficiencies, Dr. Strauf and his collaborators devised an improved fabrication process for carbon nanotubes. They discovered that impurities introduced by the growth techniques and their proximity to a substrate masked the intrinsic optical properties. Their ultraclean and air-suspended carbon nanotubes can potentially lead to brighter light sources and more effective solar cells.

According to Dr. Rainer Martini, Director of the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics, “This work constitutes a major advance in carbon-nanotube based photonics and will generate even more interdisciplinary inquiry in this field.”

About the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics
The mission of the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics is to provide a world-class scientific research and academic environment that fosters creation of new knowledge while educating and inspiring students at all levels as well as motivating faculty and support staff, to acquire, use, and advance the competencies needed to lead in scientific discovery and in the creation, application and management of technology to solve complex problems, invent new processes and products, and build new enterprises.
